How to Cite from the Collections

When citing an archival collection, use the following format:

[Collection Title]. Digital Collections and Archives. Tufts University.

Example: Ruhl Bartlett, papers, 1890-1975. Digital Collections and Archives. Tufts University.

Fair Use and Copyright

Tufts University has a Policy on Fair Use of Copyrighted Material. You might also want to look at Tufts' Fair Use and Copyright Brochure as well as do the tutorials.

It is the patron's obligation to determine and satisfy copyright when publishing or otherwise distributing materials found in DCA collections.

Transmission or reproduction of material from this site, beyond that allowed by fair use, requires the written permission of the copyright owners. Please contact Digital Collections and Archives (phone: 617-627-3737) for all permission requests.

Requesting an Image from the Collections

In order to request an image from the DCA collection (available through Tufts Digital Library ), please click on the online image and note the following information for each:

Identifier: This alphanumeric string is a unique identifier for the image. It will generally begin with a UA or MS.
Examples are: MS054.003.DO.03812 or UA001.009.005.00078.
Title: Note the title in its entirety, for example: Jumbowith football players, 1935.

Requests from outside the Tufts community are subject to certain conditions:

Permission to publish is for one time use only and is at the discretion of the DCA staff.
A use fee of $50.00 is charged for each image, though this fee can be waived at the discretion of the DCA staff. A $5.00 scanning fee will be charged for images not already in digital format. Fees are payable by check drawn on a U.S. bank and made out to Trustees of Tufts College. For information on international payments, please contact the DCA. We cannot at this time accept credit or debit cards.
Images will not be released for use until payment has been received in full.
To request an image please download and print the Permission Form (pdf). Return the completed form to the DCA with payment for all applicable use fees.
